Spend more during winter? Here's how you can save on utility bills

As daylight saving time ends and temperature going south, we're spending more on utilities. However, there are some great ways to help you conserve and save money.
  1. Thermostat changes - use programmable types, lower the overall temperature help cut 2% off your bill - annual savings $200
  2. TV mode - switching the TV from retail mode to home mode - annual savings $30-$60
  3. Turning off devices - turn off/unplug the electronic devices when you're not using them, standby mode isn't good idea - annual savings $125
  4. Laundry in cold water - cold water is as good as hot water - annual savings $60
  5. Stop pre-rinsing dishes - no need to pre-rinse, just wipe off the crud and put the dishes in the dishwater - annual savings $75
  6. Fix leaky ducts - use professional to insulate all ducts in your home, also open up curtains to allow outside heat from the sun's rays in - annual savings $400
