Fundraising for Japan

Fundraising for Japan
Twelve days after the magnitude-9 earthquake and devastating tsunami that wracked the northern coast of Japan, we came together and showed our support to the people who are affected. Our fundraising event at the Alhambra's Souplantation was a huge success. According to our unofficial count, we had over 100 supporters who show up with their loving hearts and  gluttonous appetites!

Even thought it rain hard during the evening hours, but the restaurant was jam-packed with patrons who liked their salads, soups and pizzas! Thank you everyone who came out to support our fundraising event!! We will keep you posted with the total amount raised for the Japanese Red Cross.

Here are some updates from Japan:
Annoucement RT by Souplantation!

* The crisis is emerging as the world's most expensive natural disaster on record, likely to cost up to $309 billion, according to a new government estimate.

* The death toll continues to rise, with more than 9,500 bodies counted and another 16,000 people listed as missing. A police spokesman from one of the of the hardest-hit prefectures, Miyagi, estimates that the deaths will top 15,000 in that region alone.

* It's estimated that there are more than 260,000 people still homeless or displaced by the crisis.

* Radiation levels in Tokyo tap water have risen, sparking new fears about food safety as rising black smoke forced another evacuation of workers trying to stabilize Japan's radiation-leaking nuclear plant.
