Who doesn't drink bottle water right? OK, most of us do. Why? Because we think it's cleaner, better, safer. Well, maybe you need to think twice after reading this article, which I recently read.I make hot cocoa or tea or coffee with tap water (of course boiling water, duh) but when it comes to drinking water, I buy bottle water. Simply because I think the tap water tastes weird when you drink it plain.
There have been reports "revealing" the true face of bottle water, and I think this one was quite interesting. According to the report:-
1. Bottle water could be just tap water, such as Coke's Dasani, it is purified tap water with added extra minerals. About 25% of bottle water is taken from municipal water sources, including Pepsi's Aquafina.
2. Bottle water is not always pure, a study by Natural Resources Defense Council found about 22% bottle water had chemical contaminants at levels about strict state health limits.
3. The bottle might have toxic chemicals, especially when heated at high temperature, chemicals from the plastics may leach into container's contents.
4. Not very environmental friendly, of 30 billion water bottles sold annually, 86% end up in the trash rather than being recycled. Moreover, 17 million barrels of oil are used in the production of water bottles annually.
Well, after reading these, I'm not sure I can quit drinking bottle water, but for sure I'll recycle the bottles and maybe I can start with relying less on them. full story
瓶裝水背後的故事
一直以來我都飲用瓶裝水，除非是泡熱飲或烹煮時才會用自來水。雖然一來美國就被告知這裡的自來水是可以放心飲用的，但是心裡還是覺得有點怪怪。後來又聽說美國的水比較「硬」，而且很多人家裡也會安裝濾水器，說明自來水還是不要直接飲用的好。
相對來說，瓶裝水的價錢雖然不是很便宜，但是還是很受歡迎。一般給人乾淨、安全、更好喝的感覺。然而日前看到一項報告揭開了瓶裝水的面紗，因為外表包裝華麗的瓶裝水，分分鐘連自來水都不如，真是讓我們這些消費者白花錢。
報告說：
1. 有四分之一的瓶裝水拿的是地方水區供應的自來水，例如可樂公司旗下的Dasani是淨化過且加入礦物質的自來水；百事可樂旗下的Aquafina也同樣採用地方上的自來水。
2. 瓶裝水不一定是純淨的，一項研究發現有22%的瓶裝水受到感染，其中一些所含的化學污染物質，超出地方衛生標準許多。
3. 塑膠瓶在遇熱時，可能散發有害化學物，進而影響到瓶內的水。
4. 每出售出的300億瓶瓶裝水中，有86%被丟棄，只有少數被回收再循環。這些塑膠瓶可能需要400-1000年才完全降解，非常不環保。更讓人吃驚的是，要生產這些瓶子，每年需要耗費1700萬桶的油，間接造成「水比油貴」的情況。
